| The Maple Syrup diet or is this the Def Jam diet? |

The Maple Syrup diet has been around for years in fact it was invented by naturopath Stanley Burroughs. Celebrity followers of the diet include the gorgeous Beyonce Knowles who reportedly lost over a stone in 2 weeks by drinking little more than homemade maple syrup and following the Maple Syrup Diet regime. More recently rumours would appear suggest the Maple Syrup Diet is in fact the diet behind the mysterious Def Jam Diet. <Either way, if you’re interested losing weight on this fad diet here’s everything you’ll need to know to get you started on the Maple Syrup regime. To lose weight on the Maple Syrup Diet or if you prefer the ‘Def Jam Diet’, you’ll need to be willing to drink a diet of maple syrup and not much else. And if you can stomach 10 days of little more than maple syrup then the rewards are high! Maple Syrup dieters have reported weight loss of over 14lbs in less than 14 days that’s 2 stone in less than a fortnight. To make the Maple Syrup detox drink you’ll simply need 2 tablespoons of Madal Bal Natural Tree Syrup, this is available from most high street health shops or alternatively you can purchase Madal Mal Natural Tree Syrup online. Mix this syrup with 2 tablespoons of lemon juice (freshly squeezed) a pinch a cayenne pepper, which is thrown into this cocktail to supposedly speed up your metabolism and the final ingredient, water either hot or cold water is fine. Once your drink is made up you’re free to drink as much as you like although the recommended daily in take is between 6 to 9. There are 4 diet options of the Maple Syrup diet it depending on how much of the stuff you fancy drinking! There’s the starter version or the relaxed version, the once a week plan, the full detox or if you really fancy it the master plan, these are explained in more detail below - Starter/relaxed Maple Syrup Diet Substitute breakfast and/or dinner with the Maple Syrup detox drink with approximately 3 glasses of the drink. Sound simple enough? Well you must also avoid refined carbohydrates i.e. White bread, pasta, cakes etc and also eliminate any caffeine, alcohol, red meat from your diet as well as any fried foods or dairy products. Once a week maple Syrup diet plan For one day a week you’ll consume nothing but your Maple Syrup Detox drink and then revert back a healthy eating regime for the remaining 6 days of the week. The Full Detox As much as we don’t recommend this diet in general the full detox version is definitely not advisable. Dieters on this regime survive on nothing more than the Maple Syrup drink for up to 14 days at a time. It is recommended dieters new to the maple syrup detox should only follow this diet for between 5-7 days at a time. However, the more experienced dieter could extend the recommend 10 day detox anything up to 14 days but no longer. The Master Plan This is effectively an on going version of the diet. Anyone opting for the “full on” master plan should follow the diet for a couple of days a week every week and combine this with the full detox twice a year. So, there you have it, the maple syrup diet! Be warned this diet will most likely leave you constipated, feeling weak light headed, irritable and quite frankly misery to be around. More importantly though you will not be lose any fat you will simply lose muscle and water which you will put straight back on once you revert back to your normal eating regime. Still want to lose weight or should that be...If you still want to lose water and muscle on the Maple Syrup Diet then take our advice and don’t. Depending on which diet you follow you will be consuming, on average less than 500 calories a day! That’s at starvation levels, women are recommended an intake of 2000 calories and day and men should be consuming approximately 2500, 500 calories a day is simply not enough. Remember this is a crash diet, crash dieting is not the way to permanent long term weight loss and we don’t recommend it. However, if you’re looking for a quick fix in time for a special occasion then get on the Maple Syrup Diet but don’t expect to keep the weight off or feel good on this diet.
