Cambridge Diet

The Cambridge Diet is a rather controversial diet (aren't they all) that originated in 1970 by a doctor at Cambridge University (hence the name Cambridge Diet) and is supposed to harness, and I quote "the excellent weight loss properties of starvation" and I don't know about you but that tagline put me off at first.

Looking into the Cambridge Diet more closely we see that it really is designed to do as the creator intended since a person on this diet could have a daily calorie intake as low as 415kcal but this, it must be noted, can result in weight loss of 10 pounds or more in under a week which is on the dangerous side of things. More commonly the Cambridge Diet is used to construct a balanced daily calorie intake of up to 1500kcal depending on the dieter.

So what is the Cambridge Diet?

Well the Cambridge Diet is actually more of a nutritional substitute for food that comes in the form of powders, liquids or bars much like other popular weight loss products such as Slim Fast. These products have been designed to contain enough protein so that lean tissue is maintained at a healthy level, a mesaured amount of carbohydrate to actually induce or encourage a mild ketosis (this is where the body goes into "fasting mode" and burns fats) and just the right portions of all the essential vitamins, nutrients and fatty acids that the body needs to fucntion correctly.

The Cambridge Diet products can (and probably should) be combined with one square meal a day to achieve a steady and gradual loss of body fat and thus weight.

The people behind the Cambridge Diet do not recommend vigorous exercise while you are on the diet especially if you are pursuing a very low calorie intake.

What Is The General Opinion Of The Cambridge Diet?

Many people dismiss the Cambridge Diet as a short term solution and indeed it can help you shed a fair amount of weight in a short period of time but they argue that it cannot be used in the long term as the calorie intake is simply not enough. Whille this may be true if you are eating solely Cambridge Diet products, the option to combine a good solid meal each day can make this diet a viable solution to anybody's weight loss plans.
