Time To Get Slim

After my constant, typically girly moaning “Why does nothing fit? Do I look fat in this?” followed by “Right that’s it I’m going on a diet!…Again” I was asked by a close friend of mine to stop moaning and this time actually do something about my size 12/14 body which I dislike so very much.

So, here I am writing a blog for Love Life Hate Diets as a kind of motivation to get in shape and prove that I can actually lose weight and achieve the body I want. Think of it as a kind of weight loss record/rant with the overall goal of helping me lose weight and get in shape for the summer.

I’ve had enough, seriously if I have to watch another ‘Skinny Celebrity’, ‘Super Skinny celebrities’, ‘Race to Size 0’ etc I think I might just go insane! What up with the world?

Us mere mortals would appear to have latched onto the celebrity obsession of possessing gaunt, stick thin frames and yet we seem to totally disregard the damage it could be doing to our bodies or our long term health, scary eh?

I must admit at 5ft 5” and 11st 4lbs and barely squeezing into a size 12, I’m not exactly happy with my weight and for the past year (at least) I have been on a ‘diet’ of some sort and yet so far I just seem to have simply lost mind as opposed to any actual weight!

To add to my dismay a recent trip to my local Chemist and a go on their wonderful ‘fat measuring’ machines confirmed I was slightly out of shape to say the least, with 31.9% body fat and a BMI of 26.5 is it any wonder I’m feeling the pressure to get in shape?

A couple of months back I decided to bite the bullet and join a slimming club…that lasted all of a week! And may I say it had nothing to do with slimming consultant nor her group, no it was me and my ‘I’m too busy for all of that’ excuse. I couldn’t find an hour a week to sit in a church hall and listen to everyone else and their weight loss stories, selfish? I don’t know but either way had I of stuck to it I could have been at least a stone lighter by now if the ‘you could lose 2lbs a week’ sales line was anything to go by.

The fact is I love food, there I admit it I love eating I enjoy cooking and what’s more I love nothing more than socialising over a glass of wine and getting stuck into a plate of scrumptious food with my closest friends, who doesn’t?

If there is one thing that’s lacking from my diet it’s control, it would appear I have no self control when it comes to making the right food decisions. Would I rather have a slimming salad over a meat and mayonnaise filled burger? Er no, I wouldn’t! I could still have lettuce sitting on top of the burger…that counts as one of my five a day right?

The fact is I’d go for the burger every time maybe it’s the comforting feeling I get from eating the food I enjoy, I don’t know. But one things for sure it’s time to take control, tame my eating habits and get in shape for summer. So ladies and gents this is my weight loss journey…
