| It started so well |

16th February 2008 Have you ever wondered why as soon as you decide to go on a diet you feel hungry? When I woke up on Saturday all was well, then I remembered that I was starting my diet and instantly felt the need for food. I had a light breakfast of poached egg and grilled bacon and a cup of red bush tea. I felt virtuous and must say already looked slimmer. Although half an hour later I was hungry and gave in to a piece of toast, with blueberry jam! Now I am feeling guilty and seek solace in a small (only 107 calories) Kit Kat. The diet is not going well. For lunch, brown bread and cottage cheese, back on the virtuous wagon. Sat down to watch the rugby and the wife brought me in a beer and a selection of low fat snacks. It felt churlish to complain and as she said, “you always have a beer with the Rugby”. Sorry to report that one followed another and by the time the games had ended I had used all my calories for Saturday and probably Sunday! In the evening I went to a fortieth birthday party and was convinced that I would behave myself and stick to my new healthy eating diet by eating and drinking in moderation. I also had the brain wave that if I drank strong lager, I would drink less and so save on the calories. Brilliant eh? No, I drank as much as I normally would, but then had to eat vast amounts of party food to soak up the alcohol. Whilst on that subject, try to find low calorie food on a party table. I have to admit there were ample celery sticks and tastefully cut pieces of carrot, but surrounded by oceans of mayonnaise based sauce. Also people are not very supportive when you set off on your dieting quest – most women tell you that you are just stocky not fat and therefore do not need to lose weight and men just generally dont understand the concept of a bloke on a diet! Sunday started well, massive hangover and could not face food. So losing weight over the weekend was still on the cards. That is until Lunch- what started off as a small roast with no gravy, ended with “Can I have that if you are not going to eat it”? Monday and Tuesday stuck to the diet, but Oh it is boring. This is going to be an uphill struggle.
